SYNLawn Chesapeake Bay Hits a Home Run with the National Building Museum LAWN Project

Nothing says summer like a wide expanse of soft green grass, which is why the LAB at Rockwell Group and National Building Museum chose ‘Lawn’ as the theme for this year’s Summer Block Party installation. SYNLawn Chesapeake Bay was responsible for the challenging installation of over 26,000 square feet of SYNAugustine 547 within a very tight time frame. The Chesapeake Bay team really hit this one out of the park as one of the largest and fastest government installs the brand has handled. With an expected 60,000 visitors to have enjoyed the artificial turf over the summer until the exhibit closes September 2nd, Lawn has been a great source of exposure for the SYNLawn Chesapeake Bay team.

The Bio-Based Artificial Turf

Since the annual Summer Block Party series held by the National Building Museum takes place indoors, they wanted the most environmentally-friendly, natural-looking and feeling artificial turf they could find. This naturally led the designers and architects to SYNLawn Chesapeake Bay, the local supplier for Maryland, Virginia, and the D.C. area. SYNAugustine 547 not only perfectly mimics the look of lush St. Augustine grass, but it’s also a green choice, thanks to its bio-based artificial turf formula.

A large percentage of the petroleum products used for traditional manufacturing are replaced with soybean and sugarcane byproducts, making this the greenest artificial turf. On top of being so green, SYNAugustine 547 is also one of the most durable turf options as well. The lawn installation involved stapling and screwing the turf to 60-foot high plywood forms used to form the slope, with the need for infill. Despite working under a strict timeline, the Chesapeake Bay team completed the installation on time and even handled unexpected additions like turf-covered stairs.

Making the Most of the Biggest Government Installs

To reduce the chance of any waste the 100% recyclable turf material used for lawn will be enough to repurpose and be installed somewhere else when the exhibit ends on Labor Day. SYNLawn Chesapeake Bay and the National Building Museum have already selected companies and groups in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area that could benefit substantially from the repurposed turf. With over 26,000 square feet used for the total installation at the National Building Museum, all that reused artificial turf could go a long way for playground ground cover, putting greens, dog parks, and more.

While bio-based SYNLawn turf works great for government and commercial uses, it makes a great front or back lawn, too. Call SYNLawn Chesapeake Bay today at  443-376-6787 for a free quote.

SPCA International is excited to install SYNLawn’s products at partner shelters where natural grass is impossible to grow or cost prohibitive.

“At SYNLawn, we have always strived to create safe and clean surfaces for children and pets. We are pleased that our collaboration with the SPCA International allows us to donate premium synthetic grass in rescue shelters for pets that haven’t always been in friendly environments.
